Finding and Adapting a Home Close to a Support Network

Our client needed an accessible, adapted home close to her support network

Our client lived in an adapted home on the outskirts of Taunton, with her mother, sister and brother.

The current family home, while meeting some of her needs, didn’t offer sufficient space or potential scope to extend, to ensure it was suitable for her future needs and care regime.

the solution

A new property was found in the neighbouring village, upon which PLG carried out the necessary due diligence and managed the purchase for the client. Once the purchase was completed PLG was instructed as architects for the project.

The scheme involved converting and extending a large double garage to create a master bedroom with an accessible bathroom suite for the client. This included a height adjustable bath, height adjustable shower chair, level access shower and future proofing for hoist systems. There was also a large extension out to the rear which allowed for carers bedroom / dayroom, en-suite and kitchenette with a new sun room added for a quiet space for the client to use.

The existing part of the house had two level changes to make consistent with the new extension. There was also extensive work to the rear garden to provide a safe and useable space.

The completed project provides the family with a new home that not only meets the current needs, but also those for years to come in an environment they can all enjoy.
